Vice Admiral Bruno PAULMIER was born on March 27th 1958.
He joined the Navy and the Naval Academy in Brest in 1977 and achieved his final educational tour on board the "JEANNE D'ARC" during her 1979/80 campaign. He then specialised in underwater warfare.
Paulmier joined the fleet in 1980 on ASW frigate "ACONIT". He then served as antisubmarine warfare expert on board the ASW destroyers "TOURVILLE" (1982-84) and "DE GRASSE" (1989-91). Between 1984 and 1986, he attended the National High Institute for Advanced Technologies and graduated in electronic science and systems design.
Between 1986 and 1989, he led the Fleet Operational Analysis cell in Toulon and he was member of the team in charge of the development of the future French sonar systems.
He assumed command of the light frigate "COMMANDANT BOUAN" from 1991 till 1993. Paulmier then moved to the staff of the Flag officer commanding the Anti Submarine Warfare group (ALGASM) in Brest. He attended the Naval Command College in Newport, USA (RI) in 1994-95. He was again assigned to the ASW group headquarters as deputy chief of staff for underwater warfare till July 1998 when he took command of the frigate "VENDEMIAIRE” deployed in the South Pacific.
Between September 1999 and July 2001 Paulmier was assigned to the Joint Staff as a member of the National Military Strategy and Studies board, before being selected as commanding officer of the ASW destroyer "TOURVILLE”.
After this last tour of command at sea, he was assigned to the Directorate of Navy Personal Resources and then followed the Advanced Military Studies Centre curriculum in Paris.
From July 2005 until September 2007, he was heading the Plans and Policy Department within the French Navy Staff.
Promoted Rear Admiral in September 2007, he joined the Joint Staff, as senior advisor for long-term studies.
Deputy Secretary General for the Sea from September 2008 until September 2011, he has been mainly in charge of advising the Prime Minister on all policies and matters regarding maritime areas and maritime security affairs. From 2011 to 2013, as President of the Standing Commission for Programs and Trials of the Fleet, he was responding directly to the Chief of the Navy for testing and commissioning the new ships of the French navy.
In September 2013, Vice Admiral Paulmier was designated as advisor to the Minister of Defence and was in charge of the coordination of maritime security issues within the Ministry of Defence.
Vice Admiral Paulmier is married and father of three.
